AQUATIC RECREATIONAL CENTER PROPOSAL

GLASS HOUSE + FLOATING PAVILION

The Glass House and Floating Pavilion are inspired by the idea of an iconic utilitarian space whose program integrates with the daily needs and activities of Canberra’s citizens and visitors alike.

The proposed Glass House is planned to replace the existing car park area of the Commonwealth Park. The intention is to bring new life to the precinct and strengthen the connection with the revitalised surrounding urban environment of central Canberra.

The transparency of the glass-clad skin, offering the ability to literally reflect its environment, whilst its transparency offers an analogy of Australia’s openness. Thereby ensuring a connection with the indoor space and its surrounds.

The Floating Pavilion’s stacked topology, located over the lake’s surface, offers on a macro scale a unique elevated perspective of the Nation’s Institutions, Galleries and historic Lake Burley Griffin. Whilst at the micro scale, it offers a broad range of different multi-generational spaces to a wide spectrum of Canberra’s citizens.
